Like spilled milk gone bad, celebrity relationships always seem to come with an expiry date. It took Britney Spears just over two years to file for divorce from Kevin Federline, and Ryan Phillippe was tossed out by Reese Witherspoon after a lengthy eight year marriage. While Beyonce Knowles and her rapper boyfriend Jay-Z have been one of the music industry's longest-lasting celebrity couples, reports have surfaced that indicate the relationship between Beyonce and Jay-Z may be over.
Recently, the online outlet MediaTakeOut.com posted an interview, reportedly with a member of Jay-Z's inner circle. While the source wishes to remain anonymous, that didn't stop the unnamed leak from dishing out the details on the famous couple. The source reveals, "[Jay Z]'s not 25 - he's been ready to settle down and have a family for a while now.
But Beyonce was asking him for more time." The source then explained that, "It got to the point where [Jay Z] was constantly pressuring her and it wasn't good for the relationship ... So they both decided that it would be best if they just stayed as friends."
The interesting thing is, though, although the story on MediaTakeOut is billed as an exclusive, very few outlets have picked up on the story, which leads us to believe the story may not be entirely accurate given the "unnamed" source and how the information comes third hand. However, in recent months, the relationship between Beyonce and Jay-Z has seemingly been troubled.
Jay-Z, the 37-year-old rapper whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been dating Beyonce Knowles for years, but since the couple do their best not to discuss their relationship in public, it's unclear when Beyonce and Jay-Z actually started to date. While the age difference hasn't seemed to play a major role in their relationship, it seems that may be partially what caused the alleged rift. The unnamed inside source said in the interview, "Beyonce's family was completely against her getting married. They're cool with [Jay Z] and all ... they just felt that he was a little too serious for her at this point in her life. And at this point in her career."
While other celebrity relationships have ended in disaster, with a mutual dislike of each other, the inside source quoted by MediaTakeOut said that Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z have no animosity between the two, despite the supposed end of their relationship. "They still love each other and they're still good friends so you can't expect them to just cut things off completely ... For now, it's over. But who knows what might happen in a couple of months."
It's been reported that Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z started dating back in 2002 after Beyonce Knowles had left Destiny's Child, but likely before she began her solo career. Beyonce's first solo appearance came on the Jay-Z track "03 Bonnie & Clyde", before she launched her first single, "Crazy in Love", which featured Jay-Z. Since that time, Beyonce has gone on to score huge successes in the music industry, as well a respectable film career. Knowles has been in Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Fighting Temptations, The Pink Panther, and most recently, Dreamgirls.
On the other side of the alleged relationship split, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter has been a force in the world of hip-hop. After his first two albums, "Reasonable Doubt" and "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1" both went platinum in 1996 and 1997 respectively, Jay-Z made a huge mark on the music business with "Vol.2...Hard Knock Life", which has since gone platinum five times over. Jay-Z has scored several number one hits, selling more than 33 million albums throughout his decade-long career. Jay-Z, also the president and CEO of both Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella Records, is one of the wealthiest men in the hip hop industry, and despite his retirement from the world of studio albums, Jay-Z released a new album, "Kingdom Come", in November 2006, which has already gone twice platinum.
What this story truly needs is for an offical word to come down the pipe from iether the Beyonce camp or Jay-Z crew, but for now online rumors will run rampant until we hear more from the couple.
