The star of The Painted Veil and King Kong, Naomi Watts, hasn't confirmed to the press yet that she's pregnant, but she also took very few steps to hide the baby bump in her belly on Sunday night's red carpet at The Academy Awards. There have been rumors for weeks that Naomi Watts was pregnant with actor Liev Schreiber's baby and her appearance last night along with a statement from her dress designer pretty much confirmed it. Playfuls reports that Naomi Watts was wearing a yellow Escada, high-waisted dress and that the actress looked very much pregnant.
As if that wasn't enough, believe it or not, the company that designed the dress for Naomi Watts has spilled the baby beans to the press with a representative for Escada telling People magazine, "The Escada gown set off her most precious new asset - the baby she is expecting with long-time boyfriend Liev Schreiber."
Neither Naomi Watts nor Liev Schreiber has yet to confirm the pregnancy, but In Touch magazine is reporting that friends of the couple have confirmed the impending baby. They quote a source as saying, "This wasn't planned but Naomi and Liev are thrilled. They will probably marry before the baby is born. She will make such a great mother."
Of course, Naomi Watts was asked about the baby during the red carpet gauntlet, but never confirmed it, saying only that she was "very happy at the moment." She arrived with friend, actress, and fellow Australian Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber was nowhere in sight.
The couple has been together for two years and at the end of '06, rumors started that not only was Naomi pregnant but that Watts and Schreiber would tie the knot very soon. A source quoted by Playfuls reports that "Naomi is ready to walk down the aisle with Liev - maybe soon. Liev doesn't want to waste any time. He is absolutely thrilled Naomi is going to marry him."
Naomi Watts' partner last night, Nicole Kidman, may soon join her friend in motherhood. The Oscar-winning star of The Hours told Russell Crowe on an Oprah Winfrey Oscar special - "Am I going to have a baby? I hope so." Kidman also told the press that she was still sore from injuries caused by a recent car accident, according to Monsters and Critics. Nicole was in a car accident caused by filming a scene in The Invasion.
The 36 year-old Naomi Watts first broke through in Flirting in 1991 (with Nicole Kidman), but she really took off with Mulholland Drive ten years later. Since then, Naomi Watts has been seen in 21 Grams, We Don't Live Here Anymore, I Heart Huckabees, The Ring, The Ring Two, Stay, King Kong, The Painted Veil, and as a voice in Inland Empire. She'll next be seen in David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen and Michael Haneke's update of Funny Games with Tim Roth. Watts is also supposed to start filming Ryan Murphy's Need with Nicole Kidman and the remake of The Birds, but those projects could be in jeopardy with the impeding pregnancy or, hopefully, just delayed.
