The third time's a charm. After reportedly checking into a rehab facility in Antigua last week, only to check out less than 24 hours later, Britney Spears checked herself into rehab for a second time, but this time at the Promises Residential Treatment Center in Malibu, California. However, her second attempt at entering a rehabilitation facility lasted barely longer than her first, as Britney Spears was seen leaving the rehab facility at 8 p.m. local time on Wednesday. However, Spears has yet again experienced another change of heart, and has reportedly returned to the Promises rehab facility this morning. To make sure this one sticks, Britney Spears was driven to the facility by her mother.
The past week has seen some troubling times for Britney Spears, which started off as the former pop singer entered the Crossroads rehab center in the small Caribbean nation of Antigua. The trip to rehab was not confirmed by Spears' publicist, Larry Rudolph, and just more than 24 hours after she supposedly checked into rehab, Spears was spotted back in Los Angeles. After being in town for less than 24 hours, Britney Spears went to a salon where she proceeded to shave her own head bald, and followed that up with a trip to a tattoo parlor. E! reported that After the weekend was over, Britney Spears decided to check herself into rehab once again on Wednesday, and this time, they rehab trip was confirmed by Spears' publicist, Larry Rudolph. In a statement quoted by Reuters, Rudolph said, "Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today." The statement continued, "We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as those (privacy concerns) of her family and friends at this time."
As Britney Spears returned to the Promises rehab center in Malibu, it put an end to a legal manoeuvre attempted by her estranged husband, Kevin Federline. While Spears was popping in and out of rehab, Kevin Federline seized the opportunity to request an immediate, emergency custody hearing in court to determine who is going to take care of the couple's children, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline. However, as reports came in that Britney Spears was indeed heading back to rehab, Kevin Federline as scrapped the court hearing scheduled for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Superior Court spokesperson Allan Parachini was quoted by CBS News as saying that Kevin Federline's attorney called, "and indicated nothing is going to happen today".
The court spokesperson would not venture a guess as to what Kevin Federline had been planning on addressing in the court hearing he wanted on Thursday. After the court date was cancelled, a statement was released by Mark Vincent Kaplan, the attorney for Kevin Federline, Kaplan said, "There was no official court date scheduled today and there is no future court date scheduled." The statement from Mark Vincent Kaplan continued, "Kevin continues to be a very focused father with his children with hands-on management."
Kevin Federline has been seeking full custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James since Britney Spears filed for divorce in November of last year. Spears, who cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending the couple's two year marriage, sought full custody of the children, as well as no spousal support to Federline. The next day, Kevin Federline filed his own divorce papers where he also sought full custody of the children as well as full spousal support.
